Kuusamo is a great and safe place to live with your family amidst nature. Here you get to enjoy outdoor activities year-round, participate in clubs and associations. We have fine daycare and education opportunities, as well as after-school and morning clubs for children.

Early Childhood Education

Early childhood education is an important part of a child’s development and learning. The child learns and develops in a safe environment with peers. In Kuusamo, parents working in shifts can also choose a daycare spot that offers shift care. Daycare includes meals and snacks, but it is not free of charge. Daycare fees are determined based on the family’s size and income.

Compulsory Education

In Finland, education is compulsory until the age of eighteen. The primary school starts in the year a child turns seven and lasts for nine years. After primary school, one must pursue further education. School transport picks up children even from remote areas, so in Kuusamo, you can choose to live in more secluded areas.

During compulsory studies, education and school meals are provided free of charge. Student welfare includes free healthcare and support for special needs. School transport is also free during basic education.

In morning and afternoon clubs, small children receive safe, supervised activities before and after school according to their parents’ work hours.

Clubs, Associations, and Societies

Kuusamo has an active association and club scene with a wide variety of themes. Community activities cover sports, outdoor recreation, hunting, handicrafts, 4H activities, family programs, the arts, entrepreneurship, youth activities, and much more.

Music School and Music Kindergarten

Kuusamo’s Music School provides a foundation for both recreational music enthusiasts and those planning to pursue a career in music. Music education can begin in the Music Kindergarten, where children develop creative expression and social skills through singing, playing instruments, and dancing.

Leisure and activities for the youth

Kuusamo’s Youth Center Winssi is open to all young people. Winssi has a lounge area, a soundproofed room for band rehearsals with instruments, an eSports room, a pool table and guided activities.
